# When it rains...

**Sunday 5pm**   
RDU for a direct flight to O'Hare for a Monday session.

**Monday 12pm**  
The session gets quiet as the storm clouds completely darken the sky

**Monday 4pm**  
Phone notification, flight cancelled. It's pouring outside.

**Monday 5pm**  
Uber to O'Hare, book a later flight from the car. Crisis averted, I'll be home in time for Tuesday's virtual session.

**Monday 7pm**  
Backup flight cancelled. Scramble to find a hotel and an Apple Store. I didn't bring my laptop. Booked the hotel for two nights so I can keep the room long enough for the session. 

**Monday 8pm**  
Laptop in hand, get it setup for Tuesday's session. Book a flight home Tuesday night. Local news says folks think they saw a tornado. In Chicago. 300,000+ without power.

**Tuesday 4pm**  
Session complete, 9.8\. Best quarter ever. On the way to the Uber, let the front desk know I don't need the second night, I'm headed home. "Refund me if you can sell the room!" and laughed - I'll never see that refund.

**Tuesday 6pm**  
Grabbing some dinner at O'Hare, three notifications hit at once: AA's computer systems are down, tornado warning at home in Chapel Hill, tonights flight cancelled.

**Tuesday 7pm**  
No other flights home available tonight. Call the hotel - they sold the room already (and confirmed a refund)! Three more calls, all hotels are full. Expand search, find a room. Book flight home on a different airline because, well, fool me once, etc.

**Wednesday 5AM**  
Uber to O'Hare. Clear with TSA Precheck comes in handy at a busy airport.

**Wednesday 11AM**  
Home. Finally.
